Fourth generation dairy farmer connects with consumers through social media

Quinci Scherber, a fourth-generation Minnesota dairy farmer, has been using social media to share the world of dairy with others. She has taken a modern approach to farming by sharing videos and images of the cattle on their farm. Through her social media channels, she provides a window into the daily life of a dairy farmer, allowing viewers to see the hard work, dedication, and passion that goes into running a farm. Using platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat, Quinci shares the day-to-day experiences on the farm with consumers who might otherwise have no connection to agriculture. Her content gives a behind-the-scenes look at the dairy industry, making it accessible to a broader audience.

Out of all the social media platforms Quinci personally likes Snapchat the best due to its format, where you can post videos without having to edit them. This unfiltered glimpse into farm life resonates with her audience, as it provides an authentic look at the joys and challenges of dairy farming. Quinci said she loves to give the farm a face and personality that wouldn’t be seen just driving by. By sharing candid moments from the farm, she hopes to build a stronger connection between consumers and the agricultural community.

Sharing her life as a dairy farmer with the public has helped her connect with others who interact with her posts. She finds it rewarding to engage with people who are genuinely interested in learning more about where their food comes from. “You see recurring profiles. They want to check in on the cows they have come to know from the videos,” she said. Encouraging people to ask questions is another way Quinci connects with her viewers. She fosters curiosity and open dialogue, inviting her followers to reach out with any questions they may have about dairy farming.

In the summer of 2024, Quinci, her husband, and her brother started a cow-cuddling business. This business allows people to set up and sit with calves while learning more about dairy. The initiative provides a unique experience for visitors and an educational opportunity. They can even take a farm tour to learn more about their operation. Visitors are also encouraged to visit their farm store to buy fresh products and produce. Her biggest goal is to share what the dairy community is with as many people as she can. Wanting to reach out to people and encourage them to come visit and learn more about dairy is the biggest reason for the on-farm cow cuddling innovation. Quinci hopes that through this new venture, more people will develop a deeper appreciation for the work that goes into producing dairy products.
