Midwest Dairy encourages all dairy farmers who contribute to the Midwest Dairy checkoff to consider applying for a leadership grant to help enhance their leadership and advocacy skills. Grant funds can be used towards becoming a leader in the dairy industry or developing skills that allow you to share your story with consumers better.

Dairy farmers can apply for up to $1,000 in funding in one calendar year, and the grant dollars cannot exceed the cost of the leadership class or event. The grants are approved on a rolling basis and are subject to fund availability. Also, due to authorizing statutes, these dollars cannot be used for any activity that increases production.

For example, grants can be used to attend the Dairy Sustainability Alliance Fall Meeting and Sustainable Agriculture Summit on November 18-21 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Dairy Sustainability Alliance meeting takes place on November 18-19. It brings together the broader dairy community to share the latest on dairy social responsibility, gather input on industry initiatives, and connect with colleagues nationwide. The Sustainable Agriculture Summit, held on November 20-21, is the premier sustainability event for agriculture, bringing together farmers, suppliers, processors, brands, academia, conservation organizations, and the public sector. The Summit is a forum for agricultural stakeholders to learn from expert speakers, share challenges and successes, and forge and build partnerships to advance the industry’s sustainable future.
