To kick off June Dairy Month, the Iowa Dairy Princess Program held its annual June Event—a youth dairy communications workshop and dairy princess orientation. Held on June 5 at Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar, the event welcomed high school and college-aged students eager to enhance their skills.

15 participants had the opportunity to sharpen their communication abilities through interactive sessions. Karen Bohnert, an Illinois dairy farmer and Dairy Editorial Director at Farm Journal, led a workshop on written communications where attendees honed their writing skills. Brenna Connelly, Iowa’s Dairy Center Coordinator at the Northeast Iowa Dairy & Agriculture Foundation, offered insights and strategies for conducting dairy tours. The workshop concluded with an engaging activity, as participants practiced sharing their dairy stories by leading a variety of hands-on lessons for local daycare children.

Alongside the workshops, participants learned more about the opportunities available through the Iowa Dairy Princess Program. Each attendee departed with a toolkit containing supplies and resources to help them create memorable experiences in their own communities.
